Train the youth efforts (Tye)
Settings in the rural and peri-urban areas make it very perplexing for any artiste to sprout to economic / commercial significance. The power of producers, the studio competence, the market quality and assertiveness of performers; enormously heighten projection of any artiste. The variance in above is mind-boggling concerning rural Uganda and urban Kampala. It is not shocking for example that in the entire Sheema district with 207,343 persons (2014 Census); hardly any recording studio facility can be traced. Those in need can only trek to Mbarara city. Otherwise it is very commonly, in this area, for individuals to employ a “Do It Yourself (DIY)” strategy by downloading a preprogrammed instrumental track, record the voice and shoot a video using a smart phone of inferior quality. The resulting content automatically can’t be commercialized anywhere.
Though from a resource constrained base, Tye, through Sheema North Artistes’ Platform (SNAP) works to mitigate this straining conditions by cushioning talented individuals who are incapable of molding their ideas into viable commercial ventures. As a result our interventions we have since, progressively transited some of our products from a state of subsistence living to now being productive, as employees with living wages or successful entrepreneurs both locally and internationally. However, the need is enormous.
